This vintage video features methodical and creepy millionaire John du Pont — portrayed by Steve Carell in Foxcatcher — showing his Foxcatcher Farm facilities to a reporter in 1988, several years before the events shown in the film. (Spoilers ahead.)
Foxcatcher depicts the bond that du Pont established with wrestlers Dave and Mark Schultz. Du Pont not only served as a coach, friend, and sponsor, but also as a mentor. That all ended tragically in 1996, when du Pont fatally shot David dead in a driveway situated on du Pont’s estate. No motive was established, but many say that du Pont was becoming increasingly unhinged before the murder, displaying insane behaviors such as talking to walls.
Several were witness to the murder, and John was convicted and sentenced to 13 to 30 years. He died in 2010 while still incarcerated at the State Correctional Institution, Laurel Highlands.
